Introduction

Knowing where to turn when someone you know has an alcohol problem is the first step to
getting that person some help. So is knowing what to do and what not to do. As a teacher,
you will inevitably have students who need professional
help with personal or family problems. Alcohol problems often require such assistance.
The Getting Help material in the Information Resource Centre provides information
on sources of help. Other materials in the Centre and the Arcade provide some general
information on handling disclosure by students
with a problem and offer some general guidelines for determining if someone close has a
drinking problem and what can be done to help them.
