Educating Myself and Others

Enrichment
  1. Ask students to contact "Alcohol Help" agencies in your area and to share a brief description of each agency with the class. Ask students to discuss the following question: based on what you have learned about "Alcohol Help" agencies, which agency would you recommend to a friend who has an alcohol-related problem? Require students to provide a rationale for their choice.

  2. Ask students to read one of the books or explore one of the Web sites from the Learning More section of the Information Resource Centre. Have them report on the book or the Web site in class.

  3. Invite a guest speaker to address the class on the consequences of short-term/once-only and or long-term misuse of alcohol. For example, consider inviting an adult child of an alcoholic, a teen who has been involved in a drinking and driving accident, a recovering alcoholic or a detoxification worker who has had extensive experience working with teens.
