Problem Drinking Profiles
|
|
Here are some profiles of people who are problem drinkers. Look at each
one and identify what things make the person a problem drinker.
Person 1
|
"I started drinking when I was a teenager. When I drank, I felt
more confident. I started drinking more and more often. I would
look for chances to drink. By the time I was 17, I was getting
drunk every weekend and would even go to school drunk sometimes.
I never thought you could have a problem drinking so young."

Person 2
"Hi. I started drinking alone to pass the time when I was about
35. My kids had started school. I thought alcohol helped me relax
and forget all the day-to-day stresses. After
awhile, I needed alcohol just to get through the day."

Person 3
|
"Some friends and I used to go to the bar every night after work for
a few drinks. Then, I just started going more often,
and when I started, I didn't want to stop. Pretty soon, I was
sneaking drinks at work and lost my job and even lost my license.
I tried everything - moving, making promises to my family. None of
it worked till I got counseling and really wanted to quit. I am
back working now."

"I only drink at special occasions, maybe five times a year.
But, boy do I get drunk! I got charged with impaired driving last
New Year's. At my sister's wedding, I said some things I really
regret."
